Our Last Meeting

The South Arkansas Writers met at 2 PM on Sunday, 17 August 2025, at Main Street Pizza in El Dorado. Present were Jack and Janet Ryan, Marilyn Joyner, Rick Vosper, Desireé Stipp-Bethune, Simeon Stipp-Bethune, and Ramona Wood.

Our next meeting will be at 2PM on 28 September 2025. Notice that this will be the FOURTH Sunday in order to avoid a scheduling conflict, at Main Street Pizza.

News:
Janet’s “The More Things Change” story has been accepted by “About Place Journal” and her poem, “Social-Lies-Ing” won First Place in the Arkansas Poets Roundtable contest for August.
Rick is now a member of the Mystery Writers of America.
Desireé’s “Mad Scientist” story, after submission to the White County Writers contest, has been selected for inclusion in their “Vault of Terror” compilation.
Ramona is “retiring” from her active writing, taking time to learn more about writing, and starting to work with MailChimp as a new way of marketing her books.

Writing from Prompts:
1) Desireé’s read her story, “A Mission”
2) Ramona read “Send Kids Off to School with This :)"
3) Jack read his story “Belle and Tad’s Excellent Adventure”
4) Janet read her poem “Social-Lies-Ing”

Prompts for our September meeting include: 1) ”A Seagull Named Steve” 2) “The Joyful Detour,” 3) “Escape Room,” 4) Coming to an End,” and 5) (as always)... “Anything You Want”.

We critiqued Rick’s Letter to an Agent for his novel “Requiem for a McGuffin”, and Jack’s Chapter 8, “White Owl’s Feather” from his novel “The Centaurian Bud Vase.” We had some interesting discussions and a LOT of good suggestions.

If anyone has something to be critiqued, a news item, another prompt for our next meeting, or would like to present a short “program” on something that you think would be of interest to us all, you can email me at jackwryan@gmail.com

See you in September. Stay Safe.
